Trip to the Dog Park

Workout: 3 miles at the dog park

I decided to follow up yesterday's epic hike by taking Bailey to the dog park and attempting to run.

She has three toys in her mouth. Hoarder.

I was sore this morning and wasn't sure how my legs were going to hold up. Fortunately, they did great! I was kinda-sorta hoping to run 5 miles instead of 3 so I could hit my 15-mile goal, but given all the other exercise I got this past week and the fact that I'm trying to amp up my mileage sloooowly, I decided to quit while I was ahead.

It was another beautiful day, and Anchorage-ites were out in full force. Bailey is the most anti-social dog I've ever met, at least with her own species. She is terrified of other dogs. Even the tiny yappy things. It's hilarious. She loves people, however. She had a blast running around the park with me (it's about a mile around), darting away from other dogs, and getting pet by all the people.

The run itself was really slow, just the way I wanted. There was a lot of stopping to coax Bailey into moving every time another dog got near and made her stop in her tracks, which was fine by me. The whole run was easy-paced and felt pretty great. My legs were stiff initially but after a few minutes loosened up. Once I hit three miles, I really wanted to keep going and was really close to starting my garmin again for two more miles, but I stopped myself. Playing it smart, Jeano.

To make up for not taking her with me yesterday, after our three miles I let Bailey hang out along the beachfront (I use the word "beachfront" very loosely). The ice on the lake was frozen and it was really funny seeing her try to figure out what the hell it was.

"The hell?"

I'll go ahead and set a weekly mileage goal at 15 once again and hope I actually hit it...
