Butt Sweat on My Non-Diaper Butt

Workout: 6 miles, 10:40 average, Connects

I'm glad you guys seemed to enjoy my recommendations yesterday (or, at least, didn't kick me off the interblogs). I realized I didn't actually provide any photos of the shorts I raved about, so here's my attempt to take a short selfie. This was surprisingly difficult. The sacrifices I make for you people!

YES I INSTAGRAMMED THIS. THE UPPED CONTRAST MADE THE DETAILING STAND OUT MORE! And if Instagram can't make a public bathroom look mildly interesting, nothing can. I guess nothing can.

Butt sweat on my non-diaper butt.

A *gulp* non-Instagrammed Nike tempos photo for comparison. I hate how they puff out at the sides.

I can exclusively confirm that the blue shorts DO NOT hide butt sweat, so if you're a beast like I am and manage to sweat through the short liner it'll be obvious to all the hot joggers checking out your junk.

----

Let's cleanse our palettes with some more appetizing photos, shall we? Here's where I went yesterday:

That's looking at North Suicide (its companion, South Suicide, is kind of visible on the right). Had I walked all the way to the lake, I would have been at their base.

I honestly can't even remember what the lake I was heading towards is called. I wanted to go all the way (TWSS), but my silly dog rudely decided to get tired and slightly overheated (it was pretty toasty out). The prospect of backpacking my dog out of there wasn't the most appealing, so we turned around after an hour and a half. The trail was incredibly boring  the first hour so I may or may not go back some other time.

There's that tongue again.

(INSANELY RICH) PEOPLE LIVE THERE. This is a terrible photo, but I needed to show you these houses and their awesome mountain view.

Anchorage is down that valley.

Today I ran six miles after work. It was another hot day (it's still 74 degrees at 9:40 pm!), but I didn't feel it nearly as much as I normally do. I was aiming for 3-5 miles when I started, but I was feeling good so decided to extend it another mile. I continue to run only easy miles because of my wonky ankle. Fortunately, I'm not thinking about my (tentative) half in August so there's no pressure to amp up the intensity too soon. I'd like to try a short tempo on Wednesday if I'm feeling up to it, though.

I will say that I felt great during this run. Well, I felt like a bumbling fool in my Connects (I usually wear Pace Gloves), but I had a lot of spring in my step. Barring an ankle disaster, I think I'll be back to pre-marathon Jeano relatively soon.

You guys won't care about today's song recommendation because it's terrible for running, but it's too beautiful not to share. It's a short song called In the Morning by First Aid Kit, a Swedish duo I just discovered through Paul Krugman, of all people. I've discovered a surprising amount of music through him (ie. the Civil Wars, among others). There's a beautiful "buzzing" during particularly harmonious parts (:42-1:06, for example), a sensation anyone who's played chamber music is likely familiar with. Anyway, enjoy! Or don't. I'll understand.

Questions:

  • Is it still hot where you live?
  • Has anyone ever walked in on you taking a ridiculous picture of yourself? Because someone almost did when I took my shorts pictures. You're welcome.

  1. Ha. I am often moved to take photos on the subway. I am sure the other passengers are shaking their heads at me. Whatever. I'm a blogger. I have to do it.

As someone who frequently suffers from the "peed my pants" look in sweaty running shorts, I can assure you that there are only 2 solutions: Dark blue, and Black.

Personally, I just try to own the look. And there is, actually, another solution - out here, there's very little time between "soaked crotch" and "soaked shorts", by which time the color is all the same again. Problem solved.

And yes, it's still hot here. Thanks for checking. ;-)

    1. On the rare occasion that I DO take a photo of myself in the presence of other people, I set the phone camera to the "face me" function and angle it in such a way that it looks like I'm taking a picture of something in front of me. It... works. Kind of.

You're totally right-after a while, it's all the same color! Perhaps I should hasten the process by dunking them in water prior to my run. Yeah, that's a great idea.

  2. Dark blue and black - seconded. I don't think I ever see other people in your incredible running scenery photos! Must be a nice change from NYC.

    1. Oh yes, absolutely! Not being able to get away was the worst thing about NYC (well, apart from the heat). But really, there are a lot more people here than my pictures suggest. You might call it selective photography.

  3. Love the shorts (and the bathroom selfies)! Very cute. Moving Comfort makes such good stuff. I agree that when you get Tempo shorts in the right size they can be pretty baggy. (I used to see lots of girls wearing them in too-small sizes, which I think was worse, though.) Gorgeous photos from your hike! I really need to take a vacation in AK. It's still hotter than I would like here, but I think it's supposed to be cooler at night for the next week or so. I'm very ready for fall!

    1. YES, tempos in too-small sizes are the worst. I know this because I have a couple of pairs that are too tight and I hardly ever wear them. Too much pinching.

    2. My little sister, a former high school cross-country runner, swears by Tempos. I stole hers once (we are theoretically the same size, but different shapes) and neither my hips nor inner thighs were pleased. Unfortunately my first time wearing them was also my first half-marathon (WHAT. everything else was in the wash due to spectacularly poor laundry planning), before I knew of the existence of Bodyglide.

  4. Yes, it's hot. We're basically living on the surface if the sun down here. It's scary when its 5:00 am and already 90 with 70% humidity.

I ran last night in 100+degrees, and it was hot and I stopped sweating, so that was scary/fun. I got home and laid on the kitchen floor for 30 minutes trying to stop the pounding in my head and get rid of the blurry vision.

I love that you thought that part of your hike was boring! I seriously envy you, the concrete jungle known as dallas is flat, plain, and ugly.

    1. Ahhhh, how awful! Stay strong. I can honestly say I've never stopped sweating during physical activity before. That does not sound healthy.

I would have KILLED for a hike like this one when I lived in NYC, but relative to everything else this area has to offer, it's really not that great!

  5. I like the style of waistband on the Moving Comfort shorts. They definitely seem to have a better for than Nike tempos. Well done on the selfie! People make them look easy, but they definitely are not. Get a picture of someone taking a good selfie, and they are probably in the most awkward position ever. But their selfie looks good!

It is still so hot here. I live about 5 hours south of Logan, and we usually deal with similar weather conditions. This week isn't as bad as last week, though.

    1. Aha, right, like the fact that many leg/shoe pictures are taken while leaning almost all the way over so your legs look thinner (or, at least, according to one blogger that's how it's done).

I'm glad you finally got a bit of a respite from the heat!

  6. Totally the same way with my shorts. I have some blue ones that I never wear if I will run with someone. It looks like I peed/soiled myself with the sweat, bleh. My other shorts are black, much better at hiding butt sweat!

You could have asked the person walking in on your to take the photo for you duh!

The heat is breaking in Chicago for a few days at least, going to be nice again in the early morning hours!

    1. Oh, right-I'll totally ask a stranger in the bathroom to crouch down and snap a picture of my bottom half next time. Why didn't I think of that?

  7. Ha, Indy's tounge flops out like that, too. Sometimes I wonder how it all fits in his mouth - it's SO long!

Beautiful hike, but I'm sure you made the right decision to turn around. Silly dogs, ruining all the fun ;).

    1. It's hard to remember that even though she could go for hours in the winter, things are different when it's hotter out! But she also needs to stop sprinting 24/7 so she can conserve some energy/NOT have a heat stroke.

  9. Wow. I only take pictures of myself in private places. Like Home. I can't imagine when I see people taking pictures in a gym what others must think of them, but I guess we are all so self-absorbed in our own workouts and routines in a gym that I know I do not pay attention to what others do. To each their own. Who really cares?
On an unrelated note, I do, however, have a question I am DYING to ask you but I think the public forum of the web-blogs is inappropriate. How can I reach you privately?
